What We Heard: Questions Requiring More Research & Discussion

These questions will be researched and discussed further through their appropriate channels.

Can we show transcripts for all students to all faculty?

💬 CCP will be reviewing this in Fall 2026, and will then bring it before faculty for further discussion.

Can Chairs have access to write their own reports?

💬 We are collaborating with our campus partners to provide a comprehensive answer to this question. We will post the update here as soon as it’s available.

Should the schedule of classes be available publicly or require authentication?

💬 We heard from some people that they would like this information available publicly, but also heard privacy concerns from others. A potential solution will be display all courses publicly, but not where they meet.

Should faculty staffing plans be a standalone card, and not listed on the faculty role Quick Links card, because it is only accessed by Chairs/AA’s?

💬 We are collaborating with our campus partners to provide a comprehensive answer to this question. We will post the update here as soon as it’s available.

Where will the student directory live?

💬 The directory will be available from a card (currently a General Links card, but that could change). You can also always access the directory at go.vassar.edu/directory and on the go in the Working at Vassar section of Vassar Mobile.

What We Heard: Questions & Answers

When are we using MyVassar?

💬 MyVassar will release in January 2027.

When can we access/play around with MyVassar?

💬 We hope to provide access so you can begin to familiarize yourself with the system and complete training by late Summer or early Fall 2026.

How does the schedule of classes differ from what we had in AskBanner?

💬 All of the information previously available in the AskBanner Schedule of Classes is available in MyVassar, but it is displayed in a new interface. The information is now displayed in a tabular format, with filters that let individuals adjust what they see to their preferences. There are other visual enhancements that make it easier to see when courses meet and if their rosters are full. The advanced search also adds new functionality to find exactly the information that you’re looking for, including the ability to search only courses that still have seats available.

How far back will the student data go?

💬 1996.

Can I see student history by term?

💬 Yes, depending on where in the system you are looking and your role.

Will MyVassar replace VassarOne, Vassar Mobile, Moodle, etc.?

💬 MyVassar will only replace AskBanner, serving as the central hub for all student academic information. While MyVassar will offer streamlined access to Vassar’s other digital tools, applications like VassarOne, Vassar Mobile, and Moodle will remain independent. While it may be possible to integrate these systems more closely in the future, each application will maintain its primary purpose, and they may simply display specific information from other systems for user convenience.

Primary role for applications:

  • MyVassar: central hub for all student academic information
  • Moodle: course and assignment info for students and faculty
  • VassarOne: single-sign-on portal for accessing a variety of Vassar-licensed applications
  • Vassar Mobile: Vassar’s mobile app, which curates content and tools from across the college and arranges them by use case for different audiences (e.g. student, faculty/employee, alum, visitor, etc.)—primarily serves for navigating campus on the go, discovery of other websites/apps, and in-app messaging

Can I integrate my Google Calendar?

💬 Not at this time.

What is the difference between the MyVassar unofficial transcript and Degree Works?

💬 The unofficial transcript in MyVassar lists the students courses by term, while Degree Works has the courses listed, but in the requirement the course fulfills.

Will I still need to enter a PIN to access the system?

💬 No, MyVassar will use VassarOne single-sign-on (SSO) for authentication.

Where will I access MyVassar from?

💬 A button will be added to VassarOne (one.vassar.edu) on release.

Is the My Classes card similar to Moodle where it automatically populates current courses?

💬 Yes. MyVassar will populate information based upon the selected academic period, which defaults to the current term.

Can we (faculty) access class lists from previous semesters?

💬 Yes.

Can we (faculty/advisors) access information about past advisees?

💬 Yes.

Does the advisee list show the correlate advisees or just major advisees?

💬 We believe the advisee list will show any advisee assigned to an advisor, but we will confirm and update this answer accordingly.

How can I submit an idea for a new card in MyVassar?

💬 There may be an alternative process in the future, but for now, you can use this form to share your idea.

Can links be added to MyVassar announcments?

💬 Yes, one link per announcement.

Will there be a card for Slate access?

💬 Yes.

What We Heard: Suggestions

Suggestions have been grouped into categories, duplicates have been consolidated, and minor edits have been completed to improve legibility and your browsing experience. Distinct suggestions (even related ones) have been kept separate. While we’re still investigating many of these suggestions to determine whether they’re potential MyVassar enhancements (either pre or post January 2027 launch), we have already implemented some. Keep an eye on the Community Guidance page for future updates about progress being made on community suggestions.

Student Records & Advising (Faculty/Staff View)
  • Transcript Access: Faculty need the ability to view transcripts for all students, not just assigned advisees, to assist with recommendation letters and undeclared students.
  • Semester-by-Semester Progress: Maintain the specific “semester-by-semester” academic history view currently found in AskBanner.
  • Advising View: Provide a unified advising view combining: semester-by-semester history, degree progress (DegreeWorks), major and correlate advisees, and transcript access.
  • Combined Advisee Lists: Display both major advisees and correlate advisees in a single, unified view and make it exportable to Excel.
  • Correlate Visibility: If lists are not combined, provide a clear method for faculty to access their correlate advisees.
  • My Advisees Card: Modify the “My Advisees” card to display the advisees without requiring a click to open it.
  • Advising Holds: Add a dedicated card or functionality for faculty to release advising holds directly.
  • Historical Data: Ensure academic history and course enrollment data is available back to 2006.
  • Transcript and Schedule View: Make a card that shows the student’s transcript and their schedule on one page
  • Student Photos: Include student photographs on the class roster/profile views.
  • Email Advisor: Add a “email advisor” link or button on the student-facing advisor card.
  • Faculty Quick Links card: Add a link to the course catalog.
  • Restrict NRO Visibility: Instructors should not see NRO. Only advisors should.
  • Class Roster: Add teaching units and include emails in the Excel spreadsheet export.
  • Recommendation Letters: Add the ability to view historical class rosters and grades from the “My Classes” card.
  • Student Resources Card: Add a card with links to student support resources.
  • Dining Card: Add a card that shows what is offered in the main dining hall.
  • Athletics Faculty Role: Create a role for athletics faculty (coaches) and add a card with a report listing students and their GPAs for Athletics.
Schedule of Classes & Registration
  • Schedule of Classes Enhancements: Freeze the header/top row for easier scrolling. Use the Subject Code instead of the Subject Description (example: AFRS instead of Africana Studies).
  • Terminology Updates: Replace “Hours” with “Units”.
  • Schedule Enhancement (Faculty View): Include class details(e.g. class room, time, etc.) on the main schedule view instead of requiring a click through to a different page.
  • Search Functionality: Investigate if the following search enhancements are possible:
    • Search by open classes.
    • Search by day and time of class offering.
    • Search by course attribute.
    • Add an example for Course Number 9 (e.g. 101).
    • Consolidate the keyword search—there are currently 5 different options, and most seem redundant.
    • Remove “level” since all courses are undergraduate.
    • What is the source for “Department”—is it the home department?
    • Remove “Duration” and “Sessions”—we are not using these fields on SSASECT.
    • Change “Part of Term” to “Six Week Course”.
  • Enrollment History: Allow faculty to see historical enrollment trends for a specific course to advise students on the likelihood of a course over-enrolling.
  • Grade Mode/NRO: Display the Non-Recorded Option (NRO) and Grade Mode/Type within the schedule of classes.
  • Schedule Clean-Up: Remove “bracketed” courses and the “[Bracketed]” label from the active course view.
  • Waitlist Visibility: Clearly identify when a class is full and show waitlist status.
  • Metadata Visibility: Hide “Campus” and “Term” (once selected) to maximize screen real estate, but ensure “Teaching Units” (from the “Other” field) are displayed.
Student Dashboard & Experience
  • Financial Balance: Add a card that displays the student’s account balance without requiring a redirect to Touchnet (possibly make this change on the pay my bill card).
  • Library Integration: A card showing library loans, including books checked out and due dates, without requiring a Primo login.
  • Slate Card: Add a Slate card.
  • Quick Glance Schedule: Display the specific class times in the “Quick Glance” course view.
  • Advisor Card: Add a card with the student’s advisor information, with the ability to email the advisor from the card.
  • Major GPA: Students would like to see their major GPA without having to click through.
  • Course List Pagination: Increase the number of classes shown per page (the current limit of 50 is too low for some users).
  • Centralized Links: Create a “Student Resources” card for JOT forms (Registrar/Dean of Studies), Health Services, and Student Employment.
  • Moodle: Add a Moodle card.
  • Financial Aid: Add a card to get to the financial aid portal.
  • Student Employment Calendar: Create a card that displays a feed of the student employment calendar.
  • Parchment: Add a card or add a link to request a transcript in Parchment. Or a link to the registrar webpage that has all of the transcript ordering procedures.
  • Quick Launch Card: Add a card with forms that are commonly saved on webpages.  Such as: Registrar JOT forms, Dean of Studies JOT forms.
Administrative & Departmental Tools
  • Export Formats: Provide all student lists and departmental reports in Excel/CSV format rather than PDF.
  • Class Registration Report: Create a report for a department that shows who is registered in a class and all of their email addresses.
  • Department Chair View Enhancements:
    • Add a report listing every student enrolled in a department’s courses, regardless of their declared major.
    • Add student advisor information (and possibly correlate advisor too) to the Majors Card.
    • Add a report that shows only emails for all students in a major, with a filter for class year.
    • Add the ability to email all students in a major from a card without having to export to Excel and copy and paste into an external email client, if possible.
    • Separate the student schedule from the student information on the department student information dashboard.
    • Display full student statuses, not just status codes.
    • Add a third report for addresses that includes campus address and permanent home address (include graduated students).
    • Add a calendar of when all faculty in a department are teaching.
    • Change the class column in the Department Correlate Report so it shows only the year, not “Class Of…”
Institutional Nomenclature (Global Changes)
  • Change Hours to Units: Change all references of “Hours” to “Units.”
  • Change Minor to Correlate: Change all references “Minor” to “Correlate” or “Cor Seq.”
  • Change Curriculum to Programs of Study: Rename the “Curriculum” section on the student profile.
  • Change Admin Assistant to Office Specialist: Update all titles for Administrative Assistants to “Office Specialist.”

  • Degree Works Scribing: Explore if AI can assist in scribing course catalog changes into Degree Works.
  • Degree Works: More training!
  • Accessibility Standards: Ensure the platform meets WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
  • Mobile Readiness: Use the Ellucian Path Design System to ensure the interface is fully responsive for mobile users.
  • Unofficial Transcripts: Remove “PROD” from the top of the print version of the unofficial transcript.
